BlogsGet website traffic (website visitors) from blogs
OK, I'm assuming that you have not spent the last few years on Mars, so you know what a blog is. The odds are you have read the odd one or two, but if you haven't, glance over a few on subjects that interest you.
You may even write your own blog, if so use it to poke traffic at your website. But don't just put a link to it, talk about it. If your blog is a personal blog talk delightedly about your new site, ask people to visit it, say how happy you are about it etc. Anything that will get people interested in looking at the site. If your site is not a personal blog, then find ways of including it anyway. Don't be afraid to look outside the obvious, and never shy from stretching a link to the breaking point. For example, if you have a website selling businesses and a knitting blog you could try "..... but I could never knit a business, for those I go to..." If it is a Star Trek blog "..... on earth the final fronter can simply be setting up your own business....". And if you truly cannot make a connection, then work on that "I can find no connection between designing your own underwear an this site but...."!
If you don't already write your own blog, then you are going to start one now aren't you? There are several free services that will host your blog for you, and writing it won't take much more than writing messages to Groups (as in the last section).
Ideally your blog should involve something along the same lines as your site, but if you have no knowledge/interest in that subject then something else will do.
Once your blog is up and running submit it to all the search engines. Then start trading links with other bloggers. This should be a lot easier than trading with non-blog sites because most bloggers actively encourage trading.
Try to update your blog at least once a week, keep it fresh not so much for repeat surfers, but to keep Google etc happy. The reason you want Google to love you is not just for the searches, but so that they include you in their blogs emails. You may not be aware of this, but you can get Google to do a daily search of blogs for a subject you are interested in, and email you with the results. A hell of a lot of people use this service, and if you are one of the blogs they search, you can expect a lot of good traffic. Much of that will pass onto your site.

NEW
This column's layout and style was stolen from JW Throat. Well I give him a lot of help on his site, it is about time he returned the favour.
25 September
As you will have noticed I did not manage to get an update in before my holiday. And since I got back I have been too buisy with the backlog of work that built up while I was gone to write anything here. But today, at last, I have uploaded something.
However it is probably not what you hoped for. Read the section numbered "0" and called "Start Here", you probably won't like it, but you need to hear it.
22 August
Four new pages this time, but one is very short. They are on pages 11, 12, 13, and 14 in the index to the left.
Yet again I am away over the weekend - I should actually have left an hour ago, so do not expect the next uopdate until near the end of next week. (Although it is a bank holiday, sadly my trip is work related once more.)
17 August
Two new pages this week one on social networking and one on email signatures. They are on pages 9 and 10 in the index to the left.
Hopefully I'll add another page or two during the week, but I am away again next weekend (once more it is work related) so I may not have the time.
