Link ListsGet website traffic (website visitors) from link lists
Link lists work in exactly the same way that exchanging links works, except that the site you are trading links with only has links. These do not offer as good a link popularity enhancement because there will be a hell of a lot of other links on the site. Also the better search engines can identify most link lists so do not give much credence to the links (they still give a little, but not much).
Occasionally you will see a link list that insists on your linkback being on a main page. If they do, do not swap links with them. Firstly, it makes your page look "messy" if you start adding links to your main page. Secondly, if you do it for one you have to do it for all. Even if they do not say this in their rules, most link lists expect to be treated the same, and if you put one on the main page and not them all, they are liable to blacklist you (and many link list owners share blacklists). Thirdly (and most importantly) a link on your main page is a traffic leak. You want surfers to use your links page AFTER they have bought from you, you do not want them to use the link INSTEAD of buying from you.
When you start adding your sits to link lists, remember this is a continual job, you will never reach a "job done" stage. Although your link should be there forever, so will always help your link popularity (very very slightly), you will find that most link list webmasters put new links at the top of the list. Great at first, but then others will be added on top of you, and you will slowly slip down the page, getting less and less surfers visiting your site from that list. The only thing to do to get round this is to keep submitting to new link list sites. Fortunately more spring up all the time, so you will always be able to find new ones to get listed on.
Once you have found one or two link lists (using the search engines) finding more is easy. Simply go to the two you know, follow their links to sites that they list, then go to that site's link page. Very few webmasters link to only one or two link lists, so you should find plenty more on their pages. Once you have exhausted all the sites on your original two link lists, go to the new ones you have found and "mine" more lists out of them. And so on, ad infinitum.

NEW
This column's layout and style was stolen from JW Throat. Well I give him a lot of help on his site, it is about time he returned the favour.
25 September
As you will have noticed I did not manage to get an update in before my holiday. And since I got back I have been too buisy with the backlog of work that built up while I was gone to write anything here. But today, at last, I have uploaded something.
However it is probably not what you hoped for. Read the section numbered "0" and called "Start Here", you probably won't like it, but you need to hear it.
22 August
Four new pages this time, but one is very short. They are on pages 11, 12, 13, and 14 in the index to the left.
Yet again I am away over the weekend - I should actually have left an hour ago, so do not expect the next uopdate until near the end of next week. (Although it is a bank holiday, sadly my trip is work related once more.)
17 August
Two new pages this week one on social networking and one on email signatures. They are on pages 9 and 10 in the index to the left.
Hopefully I'll add another page or two during the week, but I am away again next weekend (once more it is work related) so I may not have the time.
