Social NetworkingGet website traffic (website visitors) by setting up a page on Facebook, MySpace or Bebo
The term "Social Networking" may be new to you but I bet you have heard mention of one of these sites; Facebook, MySpace or Bebo. If you are under about twenty five, you probably spend quite a bit of time on one of these sites. But if you are over forty there is a good chance that you consider them "kids stuff where teenagers swap music and paedophiles track down victims." And if you are over fifty it is unlikely that you have ever even visited one of these sites (unless you are one of the aforementioned paedophiles). Well if you have been reading through these articles in order, you probably know what I am going to say next.
If you have a page on a social networking site such as Facebook, MySpace or Bebo, then I hope you are either already using it to push your website or are about to start so doing.
And if you don't have a site on a social networking site such as Facebook, MySpace or Bebo, then I hope you are about to start one.
A lot of people have made a lot of money on MySpace, Facebook and Bebo, particularly MySpace. But they don't really allow adverts on these sites (well they do, the ones you have to pay for, but they don't like their members using them to sell stuff), so you cannot sell your goods directly from these sites. But then you don't need to, you have a trade site to push your sales. So put a link from your Bebo, MySpace, Facebook pages to your sales site. Don't make it into an advert, talk about it as "my site". Social networking sites are basically blogs with frills, so re-read the section on blogs and treat your social networking sites in the same way as you would a blog.
And did you notice I used the plural of "page" in the sentence "So put a link from your Bebo, MySpace, Facebook pages to your sales site"? That was not a typo, I mean pages not page. You should aim for at least one page on each of Facebook, MySpace, Bebo, and any other social networking sites you can think of.
And also notice I did not say "aim for one page on each of Facebook, MySpace, Bebo", I said "aim for AT LEAST one page on each of Facebook, MySpace, Bebo". Do as many as you have time for. Be different people. Lie a bit, on one page say "and I have another site at..." on others say "my friend has a site that needs visitors, so please help me to help them and visit their site at..."
Yes, I know, a lot of work isn't it? But remember money doesn't grow on trees (well actually it does, money is made out of paper, and that is made from wood, which grows on trees, but I digress). You can make a hell of a lot of money out of your site, but to start with you have to put in a hell of a lot of work. You want to retire rich in ten years time? Then you have several years of hard work ahead of you first.

NEW
This column's layout and style was stolen from JW Throat. Well I give him a lot of help on his site, it is about time he returned the favour.
25 September
As you will have noticed I did not manage to get an update in before my holiday. And since I got back I have been too buisy with the backlog of work that built up while I was gone to write anything here. But today, at last, I have uploaded something.
However it is probably not what you hoped for. Read the section numbered "0" and called "Start Here", you probably won't like it, but you need to hear it.
22 August
Four new pages this time, but one is very short. They are on pages 11, 12, 13, and 14 in the index to the left.
Yet again I am away over the weekend - I should actually have left an hour ago, so do not expect the next uopdate until near the end of next week. (Although it is a bank holiday, sadly my trip is work related once more.)
17 August
Two new pages this week one on social networking and one on email signatures. They are on pages 9 and 10 in the index to the left.
Hopefully I'll add another page or two during the week, but I am away again next weekend (once more it is work related) so I may not have the time.
